Skipped the full 40 din 'seclusion' and the aunties have opinions, but I needed to leave the house

Three weeks postpartum. My mother wanted the full traditional 40 din at home, no stepping out, no visitors except close family, mostly rest and the daily oil malish. The care itself I actually loved, someone cooking for me, the massage genuinely helped my back. What I couldn't do was the isolation part, being inside the same four walls for six weeks straight was making my head worse, not better.

Started taking short walks in the building compound from week 2, sat outside for chai, and my mood noticeably lifted within days. Told my mother it wasn't about disrespecting the tradition, the physical recovery care can stay, I just needed the isolation part gone. She wasn't thrilled but came around once she saw the difference in me.

If you're in that fog right now and can't tell what's normal new-parent exhaustion versus something more: baby blues usually peaks around day 3-5 and settles within two weeks on its own. If low mood, feeling disconnected from the baby, or any intrusive thoughts are still there past two weeks, or feel like they're getting worse instead of better, that's the point to actually tell your gynaecologist rather than pushing through it quietly. Nobody told me that clearly either, had to piece it together myself.
