Our clinic quoted ₹4,500 for the combo shot when the govt centre gives the same protection free — nobody preps you for this maths
Not anti-vaccine, please read before you come for me — we have not skipped a single one and won't. This is about how confusing and expensive the private route can get if nobody explains the options.
At 6 weeks our pediatrician's clinic offered the hexavalent combo shot (covers DPT, Hep B, Hib and polio in one prick) for a few thousand rupees. Separately, the government schedule covers the same set of diseases, split across more individual pricks, completely free at the municipal health centre. Same protection, different packaging basically, one is just more convenient and less crying per visit.
We ended up doing a mix — a couple of combo shots for the fewer-pricks convenience where the schedule aligned well, and the government ones for the rest. Nobody at the clinic volunteered this comparison, I found out from another parent in our building. If you're budgeting for the first year, ask your pediatrician directly "what's the govt free equivalent for this" for every shot, they will tell you if you ask, and keep the vaccination card updated regardless of which route you take for each one — you'll need it for school admission years later and mixed records get messy to reconstruct.
