If one more relative asks "still not walking?" at a function I might actually lose it
13 months, not walking independently yet, cruising along furniture like a champ though. Went to a wedding last weekend and got asked about it by no fewer than five separate relatives, two of whom then helpfully compared her to a cousin's baby who walked at 10 months.
For anyone else getting this at every family event: WHO's own range for independent walking is anywhere from 9 to 18 months and that's considered completely normal, it is genuinely one of the widest ranges among the milestones. Comparing to one specific cousin tells you nothing, the range exists because it's real variation, not a ranking.
What's actually worth watching, and I only know this because I asked our pediatrician the same panicked question: not bearing any weight on legs at all by this age, losing a skill they previously had, or zero interest in pulling up or cruising by 12 months are the things to flag at a checkup. Cruising well but not walking solo at 13 months isn't one of them. Saving this post so I can just forward it in the family group next time instead of explaining it again in person.
